In the southwestern section of Oregon is a beautiful jewel. Crater Lake National Park has a lake that is the most amazing shade of blue ever seen. The mountain is a volcano that collapsed and caught the pure rainwater. The park, which is located to the east of Interstate 5, offers swimming, fishing and hiking. Visitors can walk down to the lake and take a boat to Wizard Island and hike that peak. Crater Lake is one of the most beautiful national parks. The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument is in Kimberly. These fossils beds are located a little north of the center of the state. The monument has three sections. The middle unit is Painted Hills and north of that is Clarno. To the east of Painted Hills is the Sheep Rock section. No interstate is close, but Interstate 5 is to the west and Interstate 84 is to the north. Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve is at Cave Junction in the southwest corner of the state near the California border. It is to the west of Interstate 5. Entrance is by tour only and that lasts 90 minutes.

Running through ten states is the California Historic Trail commemorating the Gold Rush. Closest interstate to the trail in the southern part of the state is Interstate 5. The Oregon National Historic Trail travels over seven states. Interstate 84 is the closest interstate to the trail which runs along the northern section of the state. Covering eleven states is the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail which also runs along the northern section of the state. The Lewis & Clark National Historical Park is in the northwest corner of the state. Interstate 5 is to the east. Hiking and water sports are some of the available activities. Information on Lewis & Clark is also presented.

Fort Vancouver National Historic Site presents information about the fur trade and military action in the area. It is located in the northwest section of the state and sections of the park are also in Washington. Interstate 5 takes visitors right to the area. Nez Perce National Historical Park covers four states. It is located in the northeast corner of the state. Interstate 84 is the closest interstate.
